Replace the boring CWM with TWRP or PhilzTouch Recovery on your Xperia. Almost all custom kernels and ROMs have the "extract_elf_ramdisk" method embedded in them which allows flashing a recovery. Img to the FOTAKernel partition and using this recovery instead of the recovery that comes inside the kernel.
