It's a practice of Tamil women to draw a kolam in front of the house every day. It's a popular belief that kolams are meant to welcome the god Lakshmi which provide the prosperity and wealth. Drawing kolams are also considered as a great workout and a form of Yoga. The kolams are generally drawn while the surface is still damp so the design will hold better.
